Hello, my name is Jasmin Lankford! I’m a sophomore at the University of South Florida majoring in mass communications with a minor in creative writing. My sequence of mass communications is journalism-magazine. I chose magazine mainly because I love to write about fun and interesting topics. From a young age, I have enjoyed writing short stories and poems. Over the years, my passion for writing has grown from something fun to do into my dream career. I aspire to write for a magazine or newspaper and also publish a bestselling fiction book.
For this blog, I decided to write about my favorite band, The Beatles. Many people don’t care for so-called old music, but the Beatles are timeless. I will discuss some of my favorite Beatles songs, famous moments in their history and more! But before I get there, I would like to give some background on the title of my blog.
Let It Be The Beatles
I created this title based off of my favorite song, “Let It Be.” This song was first released as a single in March of 1970 and again on their twelfth and final studio album “Let It Be” in May of the same year. “Let It Be” was written and sung by Paul McCartney. I love the whole song, but I especially love the lyrics: “When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me. Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.”
When asked about the meaning behind the lyrics, McCartney always answered by telling his fans to interpret the song in their own way. While many interpreted those words as a biblical reference, it is not. McCartney wrote this song about his mother, Mary, who died of cancer when he was fourteen. She is the inspiration behind the lyrics and the song in general.
“Let It Be” is soft and sad yet heart-felt and hopeful. It makes me think of my mom and what she always tells me when I’m going through something: I can always count on God for the answer. She tells me not to over-think or worry too much; just give it to God. In her own way, she is simply saying, “Let it be.”
Thanks for stopping by to read my first post and I hope you come back for more! I’ll sign off now with some more lyrics that inspired the topic of this blog.
“And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me. Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.”
